A Survey by The HE Academy showed where HE Teachers feel they develop their knowledge and skills and for teaching. We can use the results of this survey to help us decide where our time is best spent in order to maximise our professional development.
Just 31% felt that participating in a certifed course for HE Teachers made a very important contribution to their professional development. In fact 38% believed it made no contribution at all.
However, 71% felt that contributing or teaching a professional development course, made a very important contribution to their professional development.
This suggests the old adage of "You don't really know something until you've had to teach it!" Or perhaps it is the motivation to know something inside out if you've got to stand up in front of someone and explain it.
