How Can I Engage In The Process?
King (2004) has identified seven categories or modes of learning to support your need to engage in CPD. These are:
- courses and conferences
- professional interactions
- networking
- consulting experts
- professional research
- learning by doing
- learning by teaching
Whilst acknowledging that managerial expectations create a challenge to make 'space' for developing our professionalism and academic knowledge and skills, with the professional standards being set out by the Higher Education Academy it is essential that we all now address our CPD. Additionally, the HEA require that we meet their specifications before we can apply for membership to the Higher Education Academy. Rumour also has it, that our engagement in CPD as academics could also be linked to our Performance Development Review and salary grading!
